Darcio Gianelli

Darcio Gianelli is currently principal trombone of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra at his native Brazil. Pryor to this appointment, Mr. Gianelli was a member of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra in Spain.

Apart of his orchestral duties, Darcio has also performed as soloist with orchestras and wind ensembles. In 2009, he was responsible for the first performance in Brazil of  Martin Ellerby’s Concerto for Trombone and Band.

Mr. Gianelli has been invited as a teacher and performer to the most important music festivals in Brazil. His teaching activities also include the São Paulo Symphony’s Music Academy as well as his private studio.

Darcio holds the Bachelor’s Degree from the Mozarteum College of São Paulo and the Master’s Degree from the Juilliard School as a student of Per Brevig and Joseph Alessi.

He is the winner of the 2000 Tilden Prize Competition in New York, the 2001 Van Haney Philharmonic Prize, and the second prize of the 2001 Zellmer Minnesota Orchestra Competition.
